Changzhi Pingtung 70%

Born in Taiwan, grew up in Vancouver, and nurtured by Kasama Chocolate and YI SHI Cacao Collective.

Our journey with the Changzhi Pingtung 70% Chocolate began in March 2024, during a memorable visit to Meya Farm. This lively cacao farm in southern Taiwan is where we first met Mr. Chiu and Mr. Huang. From the moment we stepped onto the farm, we were greeted by lush, vibrant green cacao trees swaying gently in the breeze.

As we wandered through the farm, intercropped with banana trees, the dry cacao leaves crackled underfoot with every step. Suddenly, we saw a fish pond in the heart of the cacao farm! Curious, we asked, “Why is there a fish pond in the middle of a cacao farm?”
Mr. Chiu explained, “This was once a water reservoir. Now, it’s part of an aquaponics system. The fish are fed here, and their waste is transformed into fertilizer for the cacao trees.”

This integration of nature and sustainability moved us deeply. Meya Farm’s innovative practices create a beautiful, self-sustaining cycle where every element thrives together.

How could we not share this inspiring story with you? From that moment, the dream was born: to bring Meya Farm’s cacao beans back to Vancouver and collaborate with Kasama Chocolate to craft a bar that embodies this journey.

We are deeply grateful for Kasama Chocolate team joining hands with us to bring the Changzhi Pingtung 70% bar to life. It is a celebration of the people, the land, and the vision that make it all possible.

Meya Farm’s cacao trees produce fruit-forward beans, showcasing notes of tropical fruit, apricot, red berry notes with a hint of juicy acidity.

Inspired by the fish pond and cacao tree leaves dancing in the wind, this artwork is beautifully illustrated by our friend, Vancouver-based artist Ann Liao. It celebrates the harmony between the aquaponics system and cacao trees in Meya Farm.
