In Pingtung, Taiwan, you will discover one of the world's shortest journeys from cacao tree to bar. In the township of Changzhi, the dedicated team at Meya Farm cultivate cacao trees intercropped with coconut palms, banana trees, and an aquaponics system. This thoughtful approach supports biodiversity and shows a commitment to sustainable farming.
This limited release batch of chocolate is crafted in collaboration with our friends at Kasama Chocolate, located on Granville Island in Vancouver, BC. It features cacao beans grown and fermented on a single estate: Meya Farm, located in the Changzhi township of Pingtung, southern Taiwan.
It took Olivia four hours of combined bus and train rides, followed by a half-hour walk to finally catch her first glimpse of Meya Farm’s cacao trees. Surrounded by coconut palms and banana trees, these trees contribute to the land’s rich biodiversity. A fish pond on the farm, part of an aquaponics system, helps the cacao trees thrive naturally.
Meya Farm’s cacao trees tend to produce fruit-forward beans, showcasing tropical fruit, notes of ripe apricot, heirloom mango, with a hint of guava and floral finish.
The artwork for this special chocolate bar was beautifully illustrated by Vancouver-based artist Ann Liao, celebrating the harmony of an aquaponics system in Meya Farm.
This chocolate bar was recently awarded a Silver at the 2025 International Chocolate Awards (World and North America).
